A church in Nairobi has rejected political donations from President William Ruto and other leaders, adhering to directives from the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB). The directives issued on 14th November 2024, discourage using church events and donations for political self-promotion.
The refunded are Ksh 600,000 from President Ruto for the choir and Parish Missionary Council (PMC) and Ksh 2 million for the construction of the Fathers’ house. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s Ksh 200,000 donation to the choir was also returned. The Church stated that accepting such funds could compromise its moral authority and independence. The Archdiocese cautioned against using church platforms for politics stating that such actions undermine the sanctity of worship. Politicians were urged to respect the Church's role as a place of spiritual guidance, not a tool for advancing political ambitions.
